Orlando Citrus Results 01/27/12-01/28/12:Orlando opens 2012 season to a big enthusiastic crowd
Orlando Jai-alai opened the 2012 season Friday night to a very large and enthusiastic crowd, as the venue is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The place was about 80-85% full at its peak, showing that jai-alai still has its fans. Fans were clapping to the players march before every game, and cheered on the action during the 13-game performance. About one million dollars in improvements have been made at the fronton, and the place appeared cleaner and brighter inside and out. The new players uniforms are nice looking, but some of them were difficult to determine what post was out there on the court. Numbers 3, 4, 6 and 7 had no contrast, and management has acknowledged the mistake. There was an admission charge of $3, which will be the norm this year. Wristbands were required to enter and leave the building, which appeared to irk some as did the cover charge, which had been free for years now.
Orlando Jai-alai has never looked better with about $1M in improvements
Opening night crowd filled up about 80-85% of the 1,000 seat fronton
Faces in the crowd – Benny and Orlando Jai-alai’s PR man Bruce
A new retractable screen (to allow concerts) is a little harder to see through from up front in the front row
One of Laca’s products, ScaleBlaster is now featured on the actual court. There is also a ½ page ad in the program.
